Despite the controversy, all sides agree that 'Bloody Sunday' marked a major negative turning point in the fortunes of Northern Ireland. Harold Wilson, then the Leader of the Opposition in the Commons, reiterated his belief that a united Ireland was the only possible solution to Northern Ireland's Troubles. William Craig, then Stormont Home Affairs

After bloody sunday, many Catholics turned on the British army, seeing it no longer as their protector but as their enemy. Young nationalists became increasingly attracted to violent republican groups

In the following twenty years, the Provisional Irish Republican Army and other smaller republican groups such as the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) mounted an armed campaign against the British.), the Troubles cost the lives of thousands of people. Incidents included the killing of three members of a pop band,With the official cessation of violence by some of the major paramilitary organisations and the creation of the power-sharing executive at Stormont in Belfast under the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, the Saville Tribunal's re-examination of the events of that day is widely hoped to provide a thorough account of the events of Bloody Sunday.

There has been a commemoration of Bloody Sunday each year since. There is a programme of events planned over a week this year (2008) as in previous years.

Causes Of Bloody Sunday
Shocking event of bloody Sunday was not caused by one or two events or issues, but rather a collection of past dealings and tribulations which gradually built to its happening.Northern Irish Protestants and British argue the day's activities are down to the Northern Irish Civil Rights Association march itself. If the march had not taken place the following deaths would not have happened, although this is true it is not the only cause. One of the main causes of Bloody Sunday was that of civil rights.

Consequences of Bloody Sunday
-British soldiers shot at the pretesters leaving 13 civilians dead and many wounded.

Bloody Sunday is the term used to describe an incident in Derry,Northern Ireland, on 30 January 1972 in which 26 civil rights protesters were shot by members of the 1st Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment during a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association march in the Bogside area of the city. Thirteen people, seven of whom were teenagers, died immediately, while the death of another person 4½ months later has been attributed to the injuries he received on the day. Two protesters were injured when they were run down by army vehicles. Many witnesses including bystanders and journalists testify that all those shot were unarmed. Five of those wounded were shot in the back.

This is a song which U2 sang,
called Sunday Bloody Sunday

'Yes...

I cant believe the news today
Oh, I cant close my eyes and make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under childrens feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I wont heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday bloody sunday...)
(allright lets go!)

And the battles just begun
Theres many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday

How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Tonight...

Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
Tonight
Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
(come get some!)

Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Wipe your tears away
I wipe your tears away
(sunday, bloody sunday)
I wipe your blood shot eyes
(sunday, bloody sunday)

Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
(here I come!)

And its true we are immune
When fact is fiction and tv reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

The real battle yet begun (sunday, bloody sunday)
To claim the victory jesus won (sunday, bloody sunday)
On...

Sunday bloody sunday
Sunday bloody sunday...'

Causes Of Bloody Sunday

The Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972, was a turning point of the Catholic and Protestant ties. The Catholic were very clear that the government will deal with them harshly, this had led to great outbust of Catholic anger.

In 1972, there were more violence occurred. The Catholics' houses were petrol-bombed by Protestant and caused many families to do nothing but to run away. Many of the Catholic homes were burned and the government did nothing at all.

The Catholic turned to the Irish Republican Army, and they attacked the British soldiers. They bombed business and shops that belonged to the Protestants.

Between 1969 and 1993, more than 3500 people were killed and the IRA were responsible for two-third of the deaths. Hence, they learned that the Bloody Sunday incident made a great impact in history Northern Ireland.

One of the main causes of Bloody Sunday was that of civil rights.

In November 1968, in response to the Civil Rights campaign, Terrence O'Neill announced the following Reform Package that local councils to allocate housing on a points system, an Ombudaman to be appointed to appoint grievances, local government to be reformed and special powers act to be reformed.

It was also during these marches that fighting first broke out between the Catholics,Protestants and police. In August 1969, the british government sent in troops to help keep order in Northern Ireland. The troops were welcomed by the Catholics as protectors as they wereseen in as neutral force. But the good relations with the British army did not last long.

9th August 1971 internment laws was introduced as this gave he brithsih army the power to arrest, interrogat and detain without any trial anyone suspected of being invovled in any act of weaken the government.

The Catholics lost faith in the British Army when the army began searching their homes and arresting those suspected of terrorit activities.

there are two different group lived in northern ireland . they are protestan and catholic.in the 12th century.ireland was conquer by england . the english brought more protestant to ireland to increase the number or majority of catholic.as a result, northern ireland became mainly protestant . when the catholic king james II try to defeat king william the protestant king , he failed . protestant gain the control of the penal laws and set their own rule. no catholic can buy ;land ,no vote ,cant join army ,cant receive higher education . the tied between them does not end in 1800.

One causes that i think really make impact is divided loyalties and lack of opportunities for social interaction.I think that divided loyalties make a great impact as most protestent see themselves as british and would love to see the country remain as part of the united kingdom. On the other end,the catholics see themselves as Irish and wanted to be reunited with the republic of ireland. This make the prostestent and catholics intolerant of each other.Lack of oppourtunities for social interaction is a big impact as there are fully-funded public school for prostestants and private school for catholics.the private school are funded by the government. In public school, prostestent are taught british sport and would sing british national anthem while the catholic learn irish histort, took up irish sport and taught the language and culture. This show us that there wont be any piece between the country as there will always be diffrecense betwwen the tho people.

Causes Of Bloody Sunday In Northern Ireland

The shocking event of bloody Sunday was not caused by one or two events or issues, but rather a collection of past dealings and tribulations which gradually built to its happening. Although this seems obvious to most, some northern Irish Protestants and British argue the day's activities are down to the Northern Irish Civil Rights Association march itself. They reason that if the march had not taken place the following deaths would not have happened, although this is true it is not the only cause. Historians, and politicians, are forced to ask, if the march had not happened would similar events have taken place"

One of the main causes of Bloody Sunday was that of civil rights.

Thirteen people were shot dead, with another man later dying of his wounds. The official army position was that the Paratroopers had reacted to the threat of gunmen and nail-bombs from suspected IRA members. However, many witnesses (including marchers, local residents, and British and Irish journalists) challenge the army's account - their claims include that soldiers fired indiscriminately into the crowd, or were aiming at fleeing people and those tending the wounded. Some also claim that the soldiers were not fired upon. No British soldier was hit by any bullet, nor were any bullets recovered to back up this assertion. In the rage that followed, the British embassy in Merrion Square in Dublin was burned by an irate crowd. Anglo-Irish relations hit one of their lowest ebbs, with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Patrick Hillery, going specially to the United Nations in New York to demand UN involvement in the Northern Ireland troubles.

'Bloody Sunday' marked a major negative turning point in the fortunes of Northern Ireland.

Consequences Of Bloody Sunday In Northern Ireland

After 'Bloody Sunday', many Nationalists and Catholics distrusted the army, seeing it no longer as their protector but as their enemy. Young Nationalists became increasingly attracted to splinter republican groups.

Causes:
Bloody sunday had happend on Sunday,30 Jan 1972.Thirteen innocent people were shot dead by the Parachute Regiment in the street, with one person subsequently dying in hospital. The killing of these fourteen people is really the pivotal moment of recent Anglo-Irish relations.

Consequences: consequences were disastrous. Attitudes hardened, the killing intensified and what should have resolved itself in the mid-1970s is only just unwinding now. The Good Friday Agreement was signed in 1998 but it will take a century or two for all to be forgotten.

There are 2 groups of people living in Northern Ireland. The 2 groups were the Catholics and the Protestants. The Catholics control Northern Ireland and they treat the Protestants very badly.

Causes Of Bloody Sunday
On Sunday 30 January 1972, 15000 people participated in an illegal peaceful civil rights march in the Cathpkics dominated area of Londonderry. It was organsied by the NICRA and was both a protest against internment and ban on the right to march.British soldiers shot at the Protesters, leaving 13 dead and many wounded. Thus it was known as Bloody Sunday and it was a turning point for the Protesters-Catholic ties. The Deaths On Blood Sunday led to a great outburst of Catholic anger, Bloody Sunday was cause by civil right.

Consequences of Bloody Sunday
After 1972, the country saw more violence between the Protestants and Catholics.Catholic homes were petrol-bombed by protestants mobs in the middle of the night, forcing families to flee. The British Army Raided Catholic homes using force and damaging property.
